Background and Objectives: This study aimed to design and validate a conceptual model for an interactive educational film learning environment tailored to early primary education, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary synergy among educational technology, narratology, film studies, and learning psychology.
Methodology: An exploratory mixed methods design (model development approach) was employed. In the qualitative phase, the core components of the model were identified through a research synthesis approach, combined with data obtained from 18 in depth interviews with experts and scholars.
Findings: Ten key components were extracted, including learner as author, learner centered film, supportive narrator (teacher), interaction, alternative narratives, rhetorical devices, engagement, embedded assessment, open source video library, and support. In the quantitative phase, a researcher developed questionnaire was administered to 28 experts to examine the internal validity of the model. Data analysis using the Content Validity Ratio (CVR) (0.80–1.00) and the Content Validity Index (CVI) (0.90–1.00) confirmed the validity of the components. Furthermore, the results of one sample t tests, with mean scores ranging from 4.06 to 4.28 and a high level of statistical significance (p < .01), supported the structural coherence and theoretical adequacy of the proposed model.
Conclusion: Grounded in learner agency and interactive narrative, and integrating cognitive, participatory, and aesthetic dimensions, the proposed conceptual model frames story based interactive educational film as a meaning making, enriched learning environment. Beyond a content production model, it offers an interdisciplinary framework for rethinking digital learning by emphasizing active narrative experiences and the learner’s role in knowledge construction.
