[English]

Background and Objectives: This study examined the structural relationships among irrational beliefs, emotion regulation, communication skills, and PSA among student teachers at Farhangian University, with problem-focused and emotion-focused coping as potential mediators.
Method: This descriptive-correlational study employed structural equation modeling (SEM). The population comprised student teachers at Farhangian University, Mazandaran Province, Iran. A total of 280 students (132 men and 148 women) were selected using cluster sampling. Data were collected using the Speech Anxiety Thoughts Inventory, Ahvaz Irrational Beliefs Test, Communication Skills Questionnaire, Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, and Coping Strategies Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS 27 and Smart PLS 3.2.
Findings: Irrational beliefs (β=0.599, p=0.007, f²=0.194), maladaptive emotion regulation (β=0.104, p =0.05, f²=0.058), and emotion-focused coping (β=0.098, p=0.05, f²=0.052) showed positive direct associations with PSA. Adaptive emotion regulation(β=−0.143, p=0.01,f²=0.081), communication skills (β=−0.140, p=0.05, f²=0.078), and problem-focused coping (β=−0.197, p=0.025, f²=0.098) showed negative direct associations. The indirect effects of adaptive emotion regulation (β=−0.101, p= 0.042) and communication skills (β=−0.098, p=0.045) on public speaking anxiety through problem-focused coping were found to be significant. Furthermore, the indirect effects of irrational beliefs (β =0.092, p =0.050) and maladaptive emotion regulation (β=0.062, p=0.049) on public speaking anxiety through emotion-focused coping were also statistically significant.
Conclusion: PSA is associated with cognitive, emotional, communication, and coping factors. Coping strategies may play a mediating role in these relationships, supporting multidimensional approaches targeting irrational beliefs, emotion regulation, communication skills, and coping.
